How zoom works
Learn how to easily explore maps using zoom, on both computer and mobile. How to use zoom
Computer
To zoom in on a map, place your mouse cursor over it, then use your mouse wheel.
- Scroll the wheel forward to zoom in.
- Scroll the wheel backward to zoom out.
Zooming happens at the cursor's location. So if the cursor is positioned over a territory, that territory will stay centered as you zoom, making it easier to explore the map.
Moving around the map
Once you've zoomed in on the map, you can move around freely:
- Hold down either left-click or the middle mouse button (wheel click).
- Move the mouse to drag the map in the direction you want. While dragging, the cursor changes into a closed hand 🖐️.
Note:
- If you drag the map, opening a page is automatically blocked to prevent navigating by accident, whichever button you used.
- If you do a simple left-click (without moving the mouse) on a territory, it will open normally.
- A simple wheel click on a territory opens it in a new browser tab.
Mobile
On a phone or tablet, use a two-finger pinch gesture.
- Spread two fingers apart to zoom in.
- Bring them together to zoom out.
You can also move your fingers during the gesture to pan across the map without interrupting your browsing.
How far can you zoom in?
The zoom level is intentionally limited to ensure comfortable navigation.
You can zoom in enough to clearly make out the different territories, without the risk of getting lost at an excessive zoom level. Likewise, you can't move the map beyond its boundaries.
